Forest Grove School Garden Project
Congratulations to Ms Parent and her students for winning the Viewer's Choice Award!
Forest Grove Elementary – BC Green Games Viewer’s Choice Winner!
BC Green Games is a province-wide competition for students in Kindergarten to Grade 12, designed to motivate action, enable sharing, and reward and celebrate the green efforts of schools in BC. There were a total of 110 entries from 37 School Districts from across the province. After submitting our 3-minute video documentary about our beloved Forest Grove Elementary School Garden Project, we were thrilled to see that our video received a Viewer’s Choice Award from the BC Green Games via Science World and Fortis BC.
The video was produced by the Division 3 Grade 5/6 class led by Ms. Amanda Parent and mentored by Ms. Barb McMahon of the Garden Committee. Every student was assigned a role in the film including: script writing, directing, set design, student runners, collecting parent forms, camera operating, and collaborating their ideas. Their enthusiasm was contagious, which is evident when watching our film. A documentary behind the scenes video was also produced with the help of one of our parents, which includes humorous outtakes from the making of our film. Other students from the school were also included as interviewed participants of our Seed Classes, Primary Art Mural, and After School Garden Club.
As a Viewer’s Choice Winner, we received 214 votes for our entry and have been invited to Science World as a winner and participant for a free field trip to celebrate our success. A link to our film can be found here via the BC Green Games Website – Winners page..
